Playground Update – Help Needed Thursday & Saturday!

Over the past few weeks, a number of folks from Rez have been working with other churches and neighbors in SE DC to plan and fundraise for a new playground for the Hopkins housing project. We still need more help.

Two ways you can contribute:

1) Donate items for the yard sale.  They can still be delivered to the Salvation Army from 6-9:30PM Thursday night (tonight).

2) Come and shop on Saturday!  Bring friends!  Drop off baked goods for the bake sale.

Once upon a time (well, 2009 …), there was a neighborhood in SE DC with a condemned playground.  The old playground equipment was removed, but not replaced.  The kids & parents in the neighborhood really missed having a safe place to play.

A DC non-profit, Bridge Builders heard about the playground and decided to help.  They talked to people in the neighborhood and asked Kaboom if they would help build a new playground.  Kaboom agreed, and they met with kids, parents and friends in the neighborhood to begin the planning process.

There was a lot of excitement in the neighborhood as everyone caught the vision for the new playground. They
began working hard on fund-raising the required $10,000 and forming strong new relationships in the community.

The first fund-raising project was a success!  A number of folks from Rez took part and washed many cars (and eating 15 racks of ribs at the BBQ!).

The group of neighbors are holding their next fundraiser, a big Yard Sale & Bake sale, THIS Saturday – April 18th.   They could use your help with more items to sell and baked goods for the bake sale.  If you have any please, drop them off Thursday night at the Salvation Army in SE. You can also help out by volunteering on Saturday during the sale, or by coming by to shop and buy some bake goods!
