Urban Mission
The Urban Mission Council
Who We Are, What We Do
The Urban Mission Council (UMC) is a group of lay leaders who are committed to helping our church serve our city. We do this by connecting volunteer and financial support from our congregation with ministries that serve the poor and marginalized in and around the District of Columbia.
Vision
We want to see a city in which widows, orphans, and strangers in need encounter the love of Christ through ordinary Christians.

Partner Ministries
The Porch
The Porch is a youth outreach ministry based at Washington Community Fellowship but supported jointly by several churches in the NE/Capitol Hill neighborhood. The ministry aims to introduce middle and high school aged kids to the love of Christ and His Church through Tuesday night fellowship, teaching, and fun. The Porch provides a great opportunity for anyone interested in serving and connecting with teens in DC.
Southeast White House
The SEWH is a local community-based ministry that reaches out to youth and families in wards 7 and 8 here in DC. In the spirit of Jesus, staff and volunteers love the community through mentoring, tutoring, after school programs, family resource development and a variety of other forms of relational outreach. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Nefret at NefretHanna@gmail.com, and feel free to visit their website at sewhitehouse.org.
Christian Legal Aid of the District of Columbia
CLADC is a 501(c)3 dedicated to providing free or low-cost legal counsel and encouragement to DC’s homeless and poor population. CLADC currently has two clinics each month: at Central Union Mission and APPA House in NW. Clinics are staffed by volunteer lawyers, paralegals, and law students with hearts to serve the needy. Volunteering is not limited to legal professionals. http://www.christianlegalaid-dc.org/
Care Company
The Care Company helps individuals and churches find ways to love and serve their neighbors. Care Company provides consultation, resources, and wisdom to the Urban Mission Council. For more information, go to http://carecompanydc.org/.
Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center
The Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center provides compassionate support, resources and abortion alternatives to men and women facing a crisis pregnancy or experiencing post abortion stress. They serve over 2,000 women and children a year. Ninety-seven percent of these women are lower socioeconomic inner city residents and 75% are between the ages of 16 and 24. The Center seeks to express the love of Christ through counseling, education, material support, friendship and community outreach.
