FAQs

WHAT CHILDCARE AND CHILDREN’S PROGRAMMING ARE AVAILABLE DURING THE SERVICE?

During the service, Church of the Resurrection has nursery care for infants 6  months and older and for toddlers. Children ages PREK 3 through 5th grade are invited to attend Children’s Chapel. In addition, children in 6th through 8th grade are invited to attend Sunday School on the first Sunday of the month (evening service only).

Infants and toddlers can be checked in and dropped off in the nursery before the service begins. Older children are dismissed for Children’s Worship and Sunday School at the Children’s Collect. Infants and toddlers are picked up later in the service during the Passing of the Peace, while older children are led by their teachers back to the sanctuary. Because we believe that children are as much a part of the body of Christ as adults, we welcome our children to worship with us during the entire service if parents so choose.

WHEN IS CHECK-IN AVAILABLE?

Check-in for Children’s Ministries is available 30 minutes prior to both services at the Welcome Table.

Parents will sign in their child and receive matching wristbands. The wristbands have matching alphanumeric codes for parents to present at pick up and help our volunteers quickly ensure that each child has been signed in. Parents, please be sure to do the following:

  • Check in your children before the service starts.
  • Bring your alphanumeric wristband with you when you pick up your child.

WHEN SHOULD I PICK UP MY CHILD?

To allow our volunteers to participate in the Eucharist, we ask that parents promptly pick up their children during the Passing of the Peace.

MY CHILD HAS SOME SEPARATION ANXIETY. WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO DROP HIM/HER OFF AT NURSERY?

Drop-off can be a challenging time for parents and children. We recommend a quick drop-off process; prolonged goodbyes can increase, not minimize, a child’s anxiety. Our volunteers work hard to soothe upset children and engage them in play.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD CRIES THE WHOLE TIME HE/SHE IS IN NURSERY OR CHILDREN’S WORSHIP?

Most children settle down within five to ten minutes of drop-off. Occasionally, however, some children are unable to be soothed and will need to be collected by their parents. If your child cries for more than ten minutes and if the crying is intensifying, a volunteer will let you know to come and collect your child. At that point, you are welcome to remain in nursery (or Children’s Worship) with your child, or you may bring your child into the worship service with you.

WHEN IS MY CHILD TOO SICK TO ATTEND NURSERY/CHILDREN’S WORSHIP?

Out of courtesy to other families (and our workers and volunteers), we request that you keep your child home if he/she has the following symptoms:

  • Fever, vomiting, or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
  • Ear infection, conjunctivitis (pink eye), strep throat, etc. unless treated by antibiotics for at least 24 hours
  • Lice, pinworms, or other infections or parasites unless treated by appropriate medication

MY CHILD HAS AN ALLERGY. HOW SHOULD I COMMUNICATE THAT INFORMATION?

Our children’s programs are nut-free environments. We do serve a snack to children in Toddler and Children’s Worship (Goldfish, animal crackers). Parents should indicate during sign-in if their child is unable to have a snack or if there are any other allergies, dietary restrictions, or health concerns that volunteers should be aware of.

WHAT IS THE CHURCH’S DIAPER CHANGE POLICY?

Our default is to leave all diaper changes to parents.

HOW CAN I SERVE IN CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES?

We expect all parents who are members or regular attenders to serve in children’s ministries once every 6-8 weeks. All children’s ministry volunteers have undergone a thorough application and screening process which includes reference and background checks, training, and a church attendance requirement.  Contact Betsy Coopersmith for more information.
