2015 Parish Retreat with Matthew Mason

We are hope-based creatures. How we live now is shaped by what we think will happen later. If we don’t grasp that the future is certain and the best is yet to come, our lives will be little more than anxious fidgeting until death. But because Christ has risen and will come again, we can have a realistic hope for the future in a way that profoundly affects our lives now.

Matthew Mason lead three sessions at the retreat:

The Best is Yet to Come…For Sure                You may listen or download it here.

The Best is Yet to Come…For the World      You may listen or download it here.

The Best is Yet to Come…For You                 You may listen or download it here.

For the Life of The World

For  the Life of the World

What is salvation actually for? Is it only about personal atonement, about getting to heaven, or something that comes later? Is it just to have a “friend in Jesus?”

For the Life of the World (FLOW) is a series that explores the deeper meaning of our salvation in seven short films (15-20 min). The Church of the Resurrection will be using this series in our community groups (RezGroups), annual retreat, and our preaching ministry this Eastertide, March 29-May 24.

Here are three options for how you can see the films:

1. Watch & discuss FLOW in your RezGroup weekly during Eastertide.

2. Host a FLOW discussion group in your home, or attend one in someone else’s home. (Contact Liz Laird to participate: elaird@rezchurch.org)

3. View FLOW on the big screen at Christ our Shepherd, and discuss with the Rez staff:

7 pm Sun 3/29–Episode 1

7 pm Weds 4/8–Episodes 1 & 2

7 pm Weds 4/15–Episodes 3 & 4

7 pm Weds 4/22–Episode 5

7 pm Weds 4/29–Episodes 6 & 7

Rwandan Reconciliation Workshop

20 years ago, Rwanda survived a harrowing genocide where one million Tutsis and moderate Hutus were systematically murdered, and has spent much of the two decades since learning and wrestling with how to forgive one another in order to rebuild their nation and sustain peace.

One of Rwanda’s leading voices for reconciliation, Antoine Rutayisire, is coming to DC shortly after Easter, and will share his personal story of struggle, including witnessing the murder of his own father at age 5, and ultimately choosing to forgive and be reconciled.  Antoine is the co-founder and President of the As We Forgive – Rwanda Initiative as well as the Senior Pastor of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in the capitol city of Rwanda.

On Wednesday, April 30th, at 7:00pm, Church of the Resurrection would like to invite you to participate as  Rev. Antoine Rutayisire will lead us in a workshop covering some of his experience and musings, and explaining some of the material that they use in the As We Forgive outreach.  His presentation will be followed by time for Q&A.

Antoine will challenge us to consider a biblical vision for reconciliation in our lives and in our mission here in Washington, DC. This event will be held upstairs in the sanctuary of Christ our Shepherd Church, 801 North Carolina, SE, Washington, DC.

Please RSVP here.
