A great way to learn more about Rez is by attending a Newcomer’s Dinner. This is an opportunity to meet others and hear more about the history and vision of Church of the Resurrection. Mark your calendars for Friday, July 20th at 6:30 pm at the Claire’s home. Email Taylor for more information or to sign up.
Join us July 4th at Katalou (5825 Rowland Hill Road Cascade, MD 21719, directions here) for a farewell to our dear friends, the Damiani family, as they prepare to plant a church in Chicago, and a fourth of July party. Parade (10am), barbecue (eat at noon), waterslide and good conversation included, but please bring a side salad or drinks to share. We’ll give farewell toasts, pray together, and plan to wrap up around 4pm.
Email Annie Mahr with questions or for more information.
Join the students & leaders of The Porch us as we celebrate the end of their year with food, fun, talent, and testimonies! We’ll gather at Washington Community Fellowship (907 Maryland Avenue NE) on Wednesday, June 13, from 7:30-9:30pm.
It’s FREE, but a love offering will be taken. (Checks can be made payable to The Porch.)
The Porch makes disciples of Jesus Christ by providing a safe and welcoming space for the youth of Washington DC to know, receive, and respond to God’s love, hope and healing.
Thanks to a grant from Scientists in Congregations, Church of the Advent is co-hosting a series of events with the Trinity Forum that will be explore the powerful synergy between modern science and the Christian faith as we ask the question, “What does it mean to be human?”
The first event (event details and registration here) will happen May 31st at 7pm at the University Club, featuring a moderated conversation between Dr. Jennifer Wiseman, astronomer and Director of the Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion for the American Association for the Advancement of Science, as well as the Senior Project Scientist for the Hubble Space Telescope at NASA, and Dr. John Haught, Senior Fellow of Science & Religion at the Woodstock Theological Center of Georgetown University. We will explore the topic, “What is our place in the Cosmos?” This will be followed by a series of discussion dinners led by some of Advent’s very own scientists. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Would you care to elevate the culture quotient of your typical Saturday routine? If your answer is “Oui, s’il vous plaît!”, then please join the Women of Rez on Saturday, June 2nd for the 2012 Museum Walk beginning at 2pm.
We’ll be touring both the National Geographic Museum and the Philips Collection and will finish our time together with some tasty fare and libations at the Darlington House. Feel free to bring new friends along for the journey. Admission is free for the day to both museums.
2:00pm: We’ll meet at the National Geographic Museum for “Titanic: 100 Year Obsession” where you can take a new look, from its historical beginnings to the latest research, at the ship that has captured the world’s imagination since it sank on April 15, 1912. (We’ll gather at the Museum’s entry located at 1145 17th Street NW).
3:30pm: Next up, we’ll stroll towards Dupont Circle to tour The Phillips Collection, where we can view the Jasper Johns and Antony Gormley exhibitions as well as one of the world’s finest collections of modern and contemporary American and European art including Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s iconic Luncheon at the Boating Party, Jacob Lawrence’s epic Migration Series, and a chapel-like Rothko Room. (Address: 1600 21st Street NW).
5:00pm: Chances are, we’ll be a bit parched from all of the intellectual stimulation, so following the tours, we’ll meet at the Darlington House Cantina, so bring a little cash to grab a bite or something to toast the day with. (Address: 1610 20th Street NW, one block North of Dupont Circle).
If you have any questions or if you are struggling to find us along the way, don’t hesitate to email Cris so we will be sure to connect.
Look forward to seeing you there!

The next Up Meeting will be Sunday, June 3, immediately following service. Up Meetings are a congregational forum, a kind of town hall gathering for the Church of the Resurrection, including a pizza dinner.
We host these meetings every couple of months in hopes of keeping everyone in the church “Up” on what’s happening. There will be a time to share thanksgivings & testimonies at the end. The meeting will last for about an hour. Childcare will be provided.
Please bring $5 if you plan to share in the pizza dinner.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Dr. David Mensah will be our guest speaker on Pentecost Sunday at Church of the Resurrection. Orphaned as a young boy in Northern Ghana, David faced hunger, starvation and neglect on a daily basis. He became converted to Christianity on the street after hearing of Yesu from a 70 year old Muslim man. Against all odds, David left Ghana in 1979 and arrived in Canada with only $10 in his pocket. There he completed undergraduate and graduate degrees, met and married his wife Brenda, launched a Christian ministry on behalf of his homeland, and became father to three beautiful daughters, including our very own Dr. Liz! Click here to read more about David and the holistic ministry he leads in Ghana. Stick around after the service on Pentecost to hear more of their story.
Lunch Cafe is a local ministry Rez participates in that provides warm, homemade meals to the homeless on Capitol Hill. This Sunday, May 20 we are looking for volunteers to cook the meals, serve, set-up/clean-up and make a dessert. First shift begins at 10am. For more information or to sign up, please email Tim Arnold.
A group from Rez does this on the third sunday of every month. Check out our calendar for upcoming dates if you’re not able to make it this time.
